Harringay

Harringay is a quiet area north of Finsbury Park. The railway divides Harringay into east and west. The west side is full of expensive looking houses for prosperous people. The east side is rougher, but there are more services on this side. A couple of really nice looking restaurants and a large shopping area caught my eye on my first visit to this area. Apparently this is the place to come to for delicious Turkish food, but I need to investigate more. This area used to be somewhat notorious as a rough neighbourhood, but more recently it has become much more relaxed.

Eating:
  • La Viña is a beautiful tapas bar with a relaxed atmosphere. Authentic Spanish menu is very affordable and delicious. Every Monday you can get really cheap and good paella here! On tuesdays and wednesdays tapas are extra cheap!
  • Harringay Green Lanes are known for their excellent Turkish restaurants. I've been to one of them and the food was truly delicious and very affordable. Gökyüzü serves amazing mezes, wide variety of vegetarian dishes and grilled meats. And it's really cheap.
Shopping:
  • It is sometimes really hard to find places in London where you can find accessories for indoor plants. Homebase is the place for this. Enormous store has all you need for your house and garden, when it comes to flowers and plants. They sell furniture as well if Ikea seems too hard to reach.

Drinking:
  • Beaconsfield is a beautifully decorated pub downstairs of a hotel with the same name. I don't know how it gets here in the evening, but the ceiling and the bar are beautifully carved and the beer selection is good!
