Harrow

The buildings around Harrow on the Hill station are just like any others in the dull suburbia of London, but the old historic Harrow on the Hill with it's old magnificent school buildings and churches make it worth visiting. That's why this page is solely on the old historic centre rather than the whole area of Harrow. If I ever find anything worth visiting in the rest of the Harrow, I'll let you know.

Sights:
  • The old village of Harrow on the Hill is a great getaway from busy city centre. Almost every building here looks like it's at least a hundred years old. There are numerous beautiful churches and most of the other buildings belong to the boys' public school in Harrow. Such figures as Palmerston, Byron, Sheridan and Churchill have studied in this school. The school buildings are very beautiful. There is also a great view from the hill towards Wembley and eventually towards London city centre. You get a completely different view if you look into the other direction, since the unified city area of London is getting a lot looser here. On your way up or down the hill, be sure to check out the grave yard of St. Mary's church in the forest surrounding the hill.
Eating & Drinking:
  • There are only few places on the hill, where you can get food or drinks. I only went to The Castle Inn, but I have nothing but good things to say about that place. Great Fuller's beers on tap and great English country cooking. The pub is divided into different rooms with a country house feel.
