Wood Green

Wood Green is a suburb-like area. It's got all the basic services such as shops, cinema, restaurants and pubs. I'm not too familiar with this place though. I know the place basically because of it's proximity to Alexandra Palace and the park in front of it. Areas to the south are a bit rougher when you approach Harringay, but even the Green lanes are now showing some signs of gentrification.

Parks:
  • Alexandra Park is one of the most beautiful parks in london. It's a landscaped park with ponds and a steep hill to the Alexandra Palace. From the top you get a nice view of Highgate hills and skyscrapers of City of London. There's also a deer enclosure and a farmers market in the park.
 Entertainment:
  • Alexandra Palace, or Ally Pally as some like to call it, is a massive old building on the top of the hill in Alexandra Park. It was the place from where BBC sent its first broadcasts. The palace serves mostly as a concert and sports arena. The gigs held here are for rather well-known bands such as Suede and The National. The palace itself is worth seeing with it's massive halls, statues and paintings on the wall. There's also a huge entrance hall, where you can buy food and refreshments before the shows. There's also an all-year-round ice rink in the palace!
Drinking:
  •  The Starting Gate is a beautiful old Victorian pub with excellent beer selection. Wood panels and decorative glass windows. This is a good place to have a pint before going to Ally Pally, although it may be a bit crowded before any events.
