Charlton

Charlton is a window to the past of East London. It's full of industrial sites and old factories right by the Thames. There are also some modern buildings built quite recently. That seems to be the first sign of turning the old industrial area into a residential one. There are not many interesting things here, but if you're a friend of industrial architecture, you might just find something that tickles your fancy.

Sights:
  • In addition to cool industrial sights, friends of cool architecture may be interested in the Thames flood barrier. Barrier consists of moveable space-age bridges that ration the water flow towards Central London.
Drinking:
  • Who would've thought that you can find a brilliant little pub in the middle of all those industrial areas. Anchor & Hope is an excellent pub with a nice beer garden by the Thames. Inside, there are pictures of old ships and fancy fabrics in the ceiling!
Entertainment:
  • Charlton Athletic football club used to be in the Premier League years ago, but now they've dropped a few leagues down. The ticket's are quite cheap. It's not the greatest football, but the stadium is really fantastic for a day of sports.

Areas around Charlton: North Greenwich, Woolwich, Kidbrooke
