Tottenham

Tottenham is one of the most deprived areas of London, but there are now some signs that this is about to change. Some cool bars and restaurants are appearing in the otherwise Poundland-style areas. Tottenham is still mainly filled with Eastern European and Afro-Caribbean communities, but some artistic young people and students have moved here in search of cheaper rent. It's a large area with different parts, so whatever description will probably be just a generalisation.
 Parks:
  • Tottenham Cemetery is a beautiful old cemetery with interesting gravestones and tombs. The gothic chapel in the middle is beautiful. It's a good place to go for a stroll.
  • It may be difficult to imagine in the middle of all the industrial warehouses etc., but there's a quiet nature area, Tottenham Marshes, just around the corner from Tottenham Hale. Great chance to stroll and mind your own thoughts.
Museums:
  • Bruce Castle is an old mansion with a museum that delves into history of Tottenham. The building itself is very beautiful with an interesting red brick tower on the yard. There's a great park with good picnic opportunities surrounding the castle. There's also a small holocaust memorial on the park grounds.
Drinking:
  • The Beehive is one of the nicest bars in London. They have a big beer garden in the back with cozy sofas and garden furniture, the inside is pleasant and there's a pool table and a fussball. They have an excellent range of local microbrewery beers on tap. A specific mention has to be given to local brewers, Beavertown and Redemption.
  • Styx Bar & Garden is a cool and artsy bar in the middle of an industrial area near Tottenham Hale tube. They host live music and other artsy activities and there's changing street food stalls for the hungy.
  • Beavertown Brewery is probably the coolest microbrewery in London. Their beers are very tasty and have fantastic cartoonish labels. Their taproom in a warehouse is only open on Saturdays, which is bit of a shame.
Entertainment:
  • Like the name of the area suggests, Tottenham is the home to football team Tottenham Hotspur. Their stadium White Hart Lane is an old stadium where you can catch world-class football.
 Shopping:
  • One of London's Ikeas is in Tottenham. it's a bit difficult to get to with public transport, but there's a bus from Tottenham Hale.
Areas around Tottenham: Edmonton, Walthamstow, Wood Green, Harringay, Stamford Hill
