Streatham

Streatham is a neighbourhood south of Brixton. This area is fairly easygoing with a mixture of wealthy and poor. There are lots of charity shops and cafes around and it seems to be fairly popular place for families. The area to the south has a bit of cillage character, whereas the northern parts around Streatham Hill are a bit uglier and busier.

Cafés:
  • Boyce da Roca is a fantastic little café, where you can enjoy top notch coffees and teas, as well as amazing sandwiches and other breakfast treats. The place looks really cool, although the strange Japanese bondage paintings on the walls are a bit strange.
  • The Rookery Cafe is a great cafe at the heart of Streatham Common. The baristas really know what they're doing and there's also food and varieties of cakes etc. There's a large outside area as well for warm days.
Shopping:
  • Books & Music is a great little shop that sells, surprise surprise, books and music. They have second hand vinyl and CDs, DVDs and books for really affordable prices. And by buying, you help the British Heart Foundation.
  • Turnstyle Records is a small record store that mainly sells new vinyl records. They also have some second hand albums and CDs. The prices are quite high, but if you're looking to find good quality albums, this is the place.
Drinking:
  • Horse & Groom is a spacious pub with a decent selection of real ales and craft beer. They also
serve some burgers etc. if you're feeling hungry. The pub looks like an old country house even though it's by the busy Streatham High Street.
  • Pratts & Payne is a fantastic old time pub. there are many different rooms and a large backyard. The beer selection is good and they have good food and even better atmosphere.
Parks:
  • Streatham Common is a large park good for running, sitting down for a picnic or for whatever tickles your fancy. The heart of the Common is a geometric garden The Rookery that has a bunch of colourful flowers and great fountains etc.
Eating:
  • There aren't that many good Vietnamese restaurants in South London, but Tiger Cafe is one of
those. It's a cozy little place as well.
Areas around Streatham: Brixton, Clapham, Tooting, West Norwood, Mitcham
