Battersea

Battersea is an industrial looking district on the southbank of Thames. One of London landmarks, the Battersea Power Station, is there, as well as great Battersea Park and some nice modern buildings. There's a huge contrast with the northern neighbour Chelsea. Little bit to the south from Battersea park, there is some pretty grim council housing, that may interest people who lke brutalist architecture.

Parks:
  • Battersea Park is a beautiful park with a cricket field, animal farm, Japanese Pagoda and some decorative water springs. The pagoda was a gift from the Japanese representing aim of world peace.
Sights:
  • The Battersea Power Station is a fantastic and enormous factory. It's nowadays not in function but they are transforming it to host luxury apartments and shops. It will be nice to see what they've done with it, once it opens up to public eventually. I'm not holding my breath though, since it's likely to be overly-priced. They're now building modern buildings around the power station which hides it from view a bit more, which is a shame.
  • Albert Bridge is one of the most beautiful bridges in London. I think it is an attraction on its own.
Eating:
  • Mien Tay is a known Vietnamese restaurant from Shoreditch's Vietnam mile on Kingsland Road. They have another place here in Battersea, close to Clapham Junction. Excellent Vietnamese food with very affordable prices.
Drinking:
  • In the middle of an ugly industrial area, there is Mondo Brewing Company tap room. This nice little pub serves brewery's beers right at the source. They also have some changing guest ales and collaborations with other breweries. This is microbrewery tap room as it should be.
  • The Lighthouse is a great pub with a big beer garden,
excellent beer selection and cozy wooden decorations.
Areas around Battersea: Wandsworth, Stockwell, Vauxhall, Kennington, Chelsea, Clapham,
