Covent Garden

Relatively small area between Soho and Holborn has a lot going on from pubs and markets to theatres and shops. You can find all the little chain shops for clothes and shoes. Market place is surrounded by street artists and tourists. Catch a musical or visit the London Opera. Covent Garden is in the heart of tourists' London, so be prepared to crowds.

Shopping:
  • The Covent Garden Market Hall has quite expensive boutiques, such as the Moomins shop. Not the best place to shop at if you're short on finances. There are some interesting shops to look at though and the street artists outside have sometimes entertaining shows from music to magic.
  • If you're looking for a certain chain shop for clothes, you are bound to find it in Covent Garden. Brands such as Camper, Fred Perry and Urban Outfitters all have their shops here. You can find these shops elsewhere as well, but here they are conveniently close together.
Entertainment:
  • The Covent Garden Comedy Club is one of the most well known comedy clubs in London. Funny stuff!
  • There are a lot of musicals and theatres in Covent Garden. Each play has its own theatre.  If you want to book tickets for a specific show, your best bet is to book online. If you just want cheap tickets to see something, there are various kiosks around Leicester Square selling last minute tickets with low prices.
Drinking:
  • The pubs and clubs in Covent Garden are not particularly interesting. I want to mention Maple Leaf though. A Canadian pub that shows sports (hockey obviously) on screen and sells tasty beer called Sleeman's Honey Brown Lager.
  • The Lyceum Tavern is a beautiful small pub with Samuel Smith beers on tap. The walls are wood panelled and it's one of the few pubs with this central location, where the noise is not too loud to have a conversation.
  • Craft Beer Co. strand of pubs has one small location in the Covent Garden. Huge selection of great craft beers and even more beers in bottles. This is a great place to explore and treat your tastebuds. A must for all beer lovers!
  • The Harp is a great small Irish pub with a fantastic beer selection. this place can get quite crowded because of the nearby tourist areas, but if you're just after a good pint and you don't mind standing, this is a great place.
Sights:
  • If you're interested in freemasonry. There's a freemason church in Covent Garden with a museum. They even have their own pub called Freemason's Arms close by. Oddly open practice for a secret society.
  • One of Central London's most beautiful squares is in Covent Garden. Neil's Yard is like a lost piece of 60's swinging London. All the walls are painted in colourful paints and there are some nice looking restaurant to sit at.
Eating:
  • Koshari Street is a fast food joint serving delicious and very reasonably priced Egyptian street food. It's all vegan and you can choose how spicy you want your dish. Just delicious and good for take away!
  • Sagar is an atmospheric vegetarian South Indian restaurant with some curiosities when it comes to food. They have an Indian version of everyone's favourite hangover-food: pizza. Also, all sorts of curries served with paper thin bread.
Museums:
  • London Film Museum has a lot of film memorabilia and trivia information on films and film-making. They have, for example, the original dolls from the Thunderbirds. The entrance is free!
