Hammersmith

Hammersmith is a nice and quite upscale neighbourhood in West London. Large shopping areas and some very nice pubs. The Thames Riverside is beautiful with a fine looking green Hammersmith Bridge. The area is fairly expensive due to western location, but it has charms beyond many other neighbouring areas. The riverside is by far nicer than the areas directly next to the tube station.

Entertainment:
  • Hammersmith Apollo is a large music venue that hosts big rock and pop acts and enormous comedy nights.
Drinking:
  • There are some excellent pubs on the Thames riverfront in Hammersmith. Blue Anchor is one of them. It has some rowing paddles inside to emphasise rowing's popularity in the area. Great beers and a nice atmosphere.
  • The Dove is an old and stylish pub with the smallest bar in London. There's also a balcony by the Thames. This is a cute and cozy place, but can get pretty crowded because of its small size.
  • The Swan is a beautiful and quite large pub in Central Hammersmith. They have a great beer selection that includes many local microbreweries. It's a Nicholson's pub, so the food is also quite good.
  • The Draft House is a fantastic place for a beer-lover. It's a small chain of pubs around London. They have a vast collection of British and foreign microbrewery beers. You find some interesting and unusual tastes here.
 Eating:
  • Finding good vegetarian food in West London may be pretty difficult sometimes. The Gate is a vegetarian restaurant serving delicious vegetarian treats. The prices are fairly high, but you get your money's value in taste. The place is quite fancy.
  • Sagar is a nice vegetarian Indian restaurant that serves currys of all sorts. Their specialty is roti, paper thin bread that is served either as a huge roll at the side of a curry, or with stuffing inside in a style of a crepe. They have another branch in Covent Garden
  • Indian Zing is a bit more expensive Indian restaurant, but if you want to eat well, this place has
some amazing food. I recommend you to get plenty of different portions and share, because everything is very delicious.
  • Villagio is an Italian restaurant with modern food that still gives credit to Italian food traditions. The pastas seem a bit more delicious than the pizzas.
