Canning Town & Beckton

Canning Town is a modern neighbourhood in the East London. It served as a stage for some of the Olympic Games of 2012. Some of those buildings represent interesting achitecture alongside the modern skyscrapers and the DLR (lifted train) that runs here. There are few tower cranes and warehouses reminding of the dockland history. Beckton, a little way to the east from Canning Town, is a quiet neighbourhood with residential houses and a city farm. I don't know where to draw the borders between these areas, so I'm presenting them all together.

Sights:
  • Olympic buildings, such as ExCel are an attraction in themselves. There is also a wonderful modern Connaught bridge.
  • There is a cable car Emirates Air Line from Canning Town to North Greenwich. You can use your Oyster for this, but it costs a bit more than a normal journey on a tube.
City farms:
  • Newham City Farm is one of the biggest city farms in London. They have a wide range of animals from pigs to goats and from horses to alpacas. A great place to see some farm animals.
Parks:
  • Beckon District Park is a large park with a beautiful small lake in the middle. It's a good place to spend summer days or to watch wildlife (mainly birds).
Areas around Canning Town: North Greenwich, Plaistow, Poplar
