Stockwell

Stockwell, at first look, looks very run-down, but once you get under its skin, there are some great little spots in there. There are Victorian town houses in a row, some coucil flats and some of the greatest pubs I've been to. It's close to Brixton's interesting pubs and restaurants so it's overshadowed easily, but at least it's a bit more quiet here.

Drinking & Entertainment:
  • Cavendish Arms is a fantastic neighbourhood pub with many kinds of activities. The organ with those candles in the picture is from its yard. There's sometimes a garden organist playing it. Yes, they do have a garden. They organise comedy nights and live music. I was there to see some of the best comedy I've ever seen. After the comedy there was a singstar party! This pub is definitely one of a kind!
  • The Phoenix claims to be in Clapham, but it's really not it's in
Stockwell. This is a great pub with wooden floors and rustic decorations and some tasty beers as well.
  • The Queens Head is one of the coziest pubs in South London. it has a live fireplace, it's almost never crowded and they have excellent beers on tap.
  • Crown & Anchor is a fantastic New York-style craft beer pub. The selection ranges from sours to stouts and they also have a couple of good real ales in cask.
Cafés:
  • A small chain of bicycle themed cafés, Look Mum, No Hands! has one of their cafés here in Stockwell. It's branded as Brixton Cycles, but it is actually closer to Stockwell. Great coffee, great bakery and even some craft beer.
Eating:
  • Booma is a fantastic modern Indian restaurant that matches their small tapas-style dishes with appropriate craft beers. You end up using a bit more money, but it's totally worth it. Both the food and drinks are amazing.
