Markets:
- Brixton Market is a mixture of everything from all over the world. Everything's a bit messy, but that only makes Brixton Market interesting. There is meat, fish, vegetables and music from all over the world. Mostly Caribbean and African though, I think. They also sell a lot of wigs here, which is a bit weird.
- Pop Brixton is a market place made of containers. There are numerous designer shops, street food stalls and a bar with cocktails and craft beer. It's kind of an expensive place, but if you're into all things hipster, this is a nice place.
- There are some fantastic restaurants in Brixton! Asmara serves delicious Eritrean food. Basically what you want to do is to share a menu with your company. The vegetarian version consists of lentils, chickpeas, fried vegetables, spinach and salad. All this is served on a flat, spongy bread with which you eat the whole thing. Delicious! For dessert, you get a ceremony of excellent coffee, popcorn and aromas that fit the experience.
- Ichiban is one of the best places for sushi around. They also have some other Japanese foods, but this place is really for sushi.
- Fujiyama is a Japanese noodle joint serving tasty noodels, katsu currys, tempuras and sushi! The prices are very reasonable and service is good!
- The Courtesan is a great place for Chinese dim sum. The place looks absolutely phenomenal and the food is really good as well.
- Turtle Bay is a fantastic Caribbean restaurant with amazing food and cocktails for a night out. They have lots of fish options and even some vegetarian options which is not always a given in a meaty Caribbean cuisine.
- Zoe's Ghana Kitchen is a small restaurant in Pop Brixton serving amazing Ghanaian food and for example beers around the African continent.
- Canova Hall is a great, quite fancy place for excellent brunches and pizza later on the day. They also have some small distillery gins and a good selection of beers and wines.
- Mamma Dough is a fantastic Pizzeria with changing specials and good craft beer selection. The wooden interiors are very hip.
- Pizza Brixton is another amazing rustic pizzeria in Brixton. They have authentic Naples pizza that is prepared in authentic way in a hotter than hot oven. The prices are very decent.
- Khamsa is a great Algerian restaurant. It's a bit out of the way, so there's always room. The food is delicious. I suggest getting the starter salads to share with your friends and the fish in filo pastry is very tasty. You can bring your own bottle of wine.
- A little walk up the Brixton Hill, there's a cozy restaurant and café, called Kata Kata. They serve West African crepes and galettes with delicious fillings. You can also bring your own bottle along. Oh, and did I mention, it's all vegetarian, with lots of vegan options available.
- Right next to Kata Kata is one of the best Caribbean places I've ever eaten in. Negril has lots of vegetarian options available and it's all super delicious. There's also a nice outside area.
- Brixton Village has numerous options for street food from around the world. One of them is Elephant Café that serves delicious Pakistani food. Excellent thalis! Senzala serves amazing savoury and sweet crepes with also Normandie cider available. There's also a place called Okan, where you get Japanese pancakes, Okonomiyakis. They're delicious. Franco Manca is now a London wide phenomenon, but the original one is right here in Brixton village. Delicious sourdough pizza. There's quite authentic Mexican street food in two different locations. The more relaxed and more fast food style one is Jalisco. Try the quesadillas here. The more authentic one, Casa Morita, has amazing and authentic Mexican fare. Choose a tasting menu if you're hungry and want to taste everything. The Provincial serves authentic Latin American home cooking, a rare feast in Europe. Mama Lan is a fantastic place to have Beijing street food. They have mouthwatering noodle soups an amazing dumplings. KaoSarn is an amazing Thai restaurant with delicious home cooking.
- White Horse is one of the most common pub names in London. This one is a café/bar, that has cool decorations and great atmosphere! In daytime it's a laid back café, where you can read a book or meet with your friends. In weekend evenings they play quite loud music, but it's a great place for a party even then. They also host quiz nights from time to time.
- Dogstar is a nice and quiet pub which looks great. They play good music, which is not too loud for having a conversation. They also have good beers on tap and they arrange comedy nights.
- Hootenanny is a nice pub with sports on screen and music nights featuring live music. Music is mostly ska, roots or reggae. There's also a garden, where you can enjoy your pints in the summertime.
- The Duke of Edinburgh is a secluded pub with a nice outside area, sports on screen and amazing selection of beers on tap. The place has a true Brixton vibe so it can get pretty crowded on weekends.
- If you're looking for delicious, weird or strong beers, Craft Beer pub is a place for you. They have an amazing collection of different beers on tap. And you know it, they're amazing!
- Effra Social is a really strange pub. It's a former Tories club. you can still see some of their sports awards and picture of Maggie on the wall. With a hipster crowd of Brixton it can only be ironic. They also have some gigs.
- If a crowded and noisy Brixton centre is not what you want for your weekend, head a bit further away to The Elm Park Tavern up the Brixton Hill. They have a great beer selection, board games and a nice neighbourhood atmosphere.
- London Beer Lab is a small brewery and a beer shop tucked away behind some railway arches. They have changing beers on tap and plenty of bottles to choose from.
- Sympathetic Ear is a new craft beer shop and a bar where you have a fantastic selection of craft beers from around the world to clench your thirst. It's a bit out of the way and masses haven't found it yet, so there's normally enough space to get a table.
- Trinity Arms is a neighbourhood pub that has a fireplace for those cold winter evenings and a large outside area with a bonfire for summer nights.
- Brixton Academy is a music venue for semi-large bands. The venue looks fantastic with castle-like props surrounding the stage. The floor rises up the further back you go, allowing people to see better even from the back. There's also a balcony.
- The Windmill is a small music venue with small bands and clubs. This place is a Brixton phenomenon.
- Burnt Toast Café is a fabulous little café in Brixton Village. They serve good coffee and amazing brunches.
- F Mondays is a modern café with excellent baristas and even better coffee. The place is quite simplistic, but very good for hanging out with your laptop. There's also a garden in the back.
- Creams is one of the best places in London to get Italian gelato ice cream. They have more than 20 different types. There are also some American style pancakes, milk shakes etc. here.
- Ms Cupcake is a fantastic establishment where you can buy completely vegan, but oh so good cupcakes. They have all the fantastic tastes such as red velvet, jaffa, salted caramel and oreo.
- Federation coffee at the Brixton market is a great place for lovers of good coffee. The baristas really know what they're doing.
- Brockwell Blend close to Brockwell Park has excellent coffee. Seriously, if you're just into espresso, you get one of the best ones here. They also have now a new place right next to Brixton station, called Brixton Blend.
Parks:
- Brockwell Park is a large park with excellent jogging and picnic opportunities south of Brixton. It also has a lido to swim in. There are great views over London from the hill. There are also some small ponds, tennis courts, children's play area and a geometric flower garden in the park.
- Pure Vinyl is a small record shop focused on soul, funk, hip hop and jazz. You can make real bargains for some rock albums, since this is not the place to come look for those.
- Supertone Records is a small independent record shop focused on Reggae. Lots of vinyl with Jamaican tunes.
- Market Row Wines is a small wine shop with great wines and a selection of local microbrewery beers.
- Ghost Whale is a fantastic little beer shop with craft beers from around the world. You can by for take away or sit in. They have a small yard in the back as well. Really good place for exploring different beers.
- Right next to the Brixton tube station, there's a street mural for the late David Bowie. When he died, this mural became a shrine with piles of candles and flowers for the Starman. This is a good place to come and appreciate his amazing career.
- There is an old windmill at a small park that has been in this area for centuries. It's a great remain from the ages when Brixton was a rural area outside London.
