Twickenham

Twickenham is a posh suburb in South West London. Thames runs here narrower than in Central London and its riverside is full of boat houses with fancy boats. In addition to normal rows of houses, there are some mansion-like houses. The riverside is beautiful. On the main street you can find exquisite cake shops and cafes.

Sights:
  • York House Gardens is a beautiful park but there is something curious here as well. White statue of a woman riding flying horses, others worshipping her and others jumping to the lake. Really surprising scene indeed! There was also a theatre group performing Shakespeare in the park when I was there.
Museums:
  • Ham House is a glorious stately home where actually one of the English kings lived for a while. It's filled with beautiful period rooms and the gardens around it are quite magnificent as well.
  • Strawberry Hill House is another fantastic castle-like house with strange, yet very beautiful period rooms and there's a nice garden, where there's some live jazz on the weekends.
Drinking:
  • The Fox is a fantastic pub from the 1700s close to the river. There are some great cask ales and a nice outside area in addition to historical rooms inside.
