Nunhead

This neighbourhood in South London may not look that interesting with the first glance, but it definitely has its strengths in pleasant parks, pubs and rows of Victorian houses. What makes Nunhead interesting is the fantastic old cemetery, park with the view and quiet upscale village atmosphere.
Parks:
  • Telegraph Park has an upper section and lower section. The lower section has a nice small pond and peculiar trees. From the upper park there is a great view over London. This is a prime spot for picnics.
  • Brenchley Gardens is a narrow strip of park connecting the old and new Camberwell Cemetery. south of Nunhead. There are some great views over a golf course and it's a great example how longer journeys can be made pleasant for the
    pedestrians.
  • Peckham Rye Park is a big park. The southern part between Nunhead and East Dulwich is filled with decorative flower gardens, Japanese style rock gardens and little rivers and lakes.

 Sights:
  • The main reason to come to Nunhead is the beautiful old Nunhead cemetery. Decorated gravestones and tombs, fancy old chapel and ivy over the tombstones. This is a really good place to get away from the noise of the city. From the hill you can see St. Paul's cathedral between the trees.
  •  Camberwell Old Cemetery is another beautiful old cemetery with both very well cared for tombs and some graves overtaken by nature.
Eating:
  • Chai's Garden is a great little Thai restaurant. They have an atmospheric garden filled with Thai style carved wood ornaments etc. Good food as well.
 Drinking:
  •  Watson's General Telegraph is an excellent large pub with amazing range of local craft beers, a big beer garden, fancy pub food and great music.
Areas around Nunhead: Peckham, New Cross, Brockley, Dulwich, Forest Hill
